MeetFactory is an international center for contemporary art created in 2001 by none other than the provocative Czech sculptor, David Černý (And yes, that’s Černý’s sculpture “Meat” hanging off of the building.). Since 2007, MeetFactory inhabits a former glass factory right next to the train tracks in the Prague district of Smíchov. The whole project/space is reminiscent of the former art commune Tacheles in Berlin. MeetFactory has an entire repertoire of alternative events: music, theater, a damn good flea market and three galleries to boot. The music scene in Prague has been greatly improved thanks to MeetFactory and the local and international acts it brings in – some past concerts include Dan Deacon, Austra, Cut Copy, Beach House. Don’t miss out on some contemporary art while there – the goal of the three galleries is to bring together local Czech art and the international scene, while encouraging an array of genres to be exhibited. Finally, you can get your cross-genre, alternative theater fix at MeetFactory.
